Occupational and Environmental Health

On thursday, we were given a talk on occupational and environmental health by En. Amir. He came only at 10 something after the presentation about nutrition was taken. He had to go early so he was rushing through. He spoke to us about the objectives of KPAS:

• Strengthen the surveillance of workers health
• Disease prevention program
• Occupational safety health 1994
• Pesticide act 1974 part VI

Pesticide act 1974 part VI states that whenever a registered medical practitioner finds or has reason to believe a person has died or suffer personal injury as a result of the handling, use, or presence of or contact with or expose to a pesticide the registered medical practitioner shall forthwith send or cost to be send to the minister notice of personal injury

Notification format:

• Notification of occupational poisoning/ disease(WEHU D1 and D2)
• Notification of occupational accident and dangerous occurrence(minister of health personal)(WEHU A1 and A2)
• Notification of occupational lung disease(WEHU L1 and L2)
• Notification of occupationa skin disease(WEHU S1 and S2)
• Notification of occupational noise(Merlinda) induce hearing loss(WEHU E1 and E2)

• low backache
• carpal tunnel syndrome
• fractures

Safety Audit
Objective:
Establish a system of inspection to determine activities / aspects of health and safety, in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 was implemented.

He ended his talk by giving us a folder with a lot of information which is not possible to be placed here and some handouts to read. He mentioned that if we read all that has been given we can become a specialist in occupational health. Haha. Awesome. Here are some picture of the handouts.
