KMAM PART 3 (LAST)

WATER TREATMENT

Before we end our day in Sik, we visited the water treatment plant. It is situated in Batu Lima. It is belong to SADA (syarikat air darul aman). It is runs by few workers to maintain the plant and guards to prevent the intruders.

THE JOURNEY...
  • Water from the Chepir river is flowed into the collection tank.
  • Flocculation is done by adding polyaluminium chloride (Al 9%). Doses are 2-5mg/litres.It is suitable for removal of certain heavy chemicals and low-solubility organic chemicals.
  • Water pass into the settling tank. It contain multiple planks which cause the water to move in the zig zag manner. This is to ensure more time for the aluminium to react completely in the water. Each tank have 2 hour retention time.
  • From the settling tank, water is then flow into sedimentation tank. In this tank, heavier dirt is remove by letting it settle below the tank. The tanks is cleaned at least once a month to ensure effectiveness of sedimentation process.
  • Water is then flow into 4 filtration tanks. It contain coarse sand below and fine sand above the coarse sand. This tank is slow sand filter which effective size of the sand is in the range 0.15–0.3mm. It is suitable to remove algae and microorganisms, to reduce turbidity and removal of pesticides and ammonia.
  • Water is then pump into a tank where chlorination process begin. Chlorine gas is used for chlorination. The gas is withdrawn from the cylinder and is dosed into the water by a chlorinator, which both controls and measures the gas flow rate
  • Finally the water is ready to sent out to the whole district to drink.
